The Bearth Spa at the El Mangroove, Costa Rica, is a tropical wellness heaven

El Mangroove Hotel, Autograph Collection, is home to one of the most unique spas I have seen in my travels so far. The building, accessed down a shaded walkway, doesn’t look like much from the outside but the Bearth Spa at the El Mangroove, Costa Rica, is truly a tropical wellness heaven.

The interior halls are modest and offer all of the necessities one might need from a spa: storage, a changing room, showers, and a vanity station. Where the real magic lies, however, in the massage garden. Walking through the glass door you are immediately welcomed by an open garden, sun beaming over it throughout the day. A zig-zag boardwalk leads you to four massage cabanas, each fully outfitted with a vanity and privacy curtains.

During the treatment, your therapist pulls the curtains shut for privacy leaving only a side that looks out into the dense forestry open. This small window into nature creates a serene atmosphere allowing nature to be a part of your wellness experience. You will hear birds chirping, leaves rustling in the wind, and feel the breeze of the tropical airbrush over your body.

Note: Make sure to collect your Marriot Bonvoy* points during this stay.

The spa offers “body and mind rebirth” in an environment that embraces the land that it sits on. Natural elements are also embedded into the treatments as massage oils, seaweed body wraps, coffee scraps, and therapeutic heated volcanic stones.

The outdoor cabanas are used for intimate individual massages. The indoor treatment rooms service couples’ massages as well as treatments that might require a shower. The indoor treatment rooms also have suave private outdoor spaces offering an equally balanced relationship with nature.

Additionally, the guests of the hotel have access to a hot sauna, an outdoor relaxation area with sunbeds, and a “room” temperature tub. There is also a fitness center with an outdoor yoga platform. The hot sauna was absolute heaven after the evening massage.
